Well, thats exactly what my little girl has been saying to me for about 2 weeks, with almost everything I say to her. Hannah just can't hear me. I noticed about 2 weeks ago, that she would say "what, huh" to almost everything I would say to her. Usually she responds quickly, and answers promptly, but not lately. She has had allergeries really bad lately, cough, congestion, her eyes have been having green mater (which isn't pink eye because we even went to the doctor). Anyway the past day or so when I talk to her she gets really close to me, and even turns her ear toward my mouth to try and listen more closely. She's been watching my mouth when I talk, and she's given me many "blank expressions" lately. It made me a little nervous actually.
So enough was enough....I talked to Jeremy and I told him that I don't think she can hear me. Yesterday she was sitting on the couch reading her book and I was in the living room on the couch too and asked her something and it was even kind of loudly...nothing, she just kept reading and playing. So I called our pediatrician, told them what was going on....they referred me to an ENT doctor (ear, nose, throat). So I called yesterday and got an appointment TODAY!!!
So today we went to Victoria (all our docs are there, about an hour away) the whole family, we saw a super nice doctor, and well Hannah ABSOLULTLEY didn't want to be there. I was praying Lord please let her cooperate, we have to get her ears checked out, and this is the really easy part....he was just looking with his otoscope. We still had the hearing test to do. So anyway, Jeremy has to hold her really tightly in the chair so the doc could look. The doctor says "Oh, she has a really bad double ear infection". I thought what?? No fever, no complaining, nothing...how was I supposed to know.
So, we proceded to the hearing test across the street....she was a perfect angel!! They made it such a fun game, I was so so glad. She got to wear these tiny little microphones in her ears while sitting in my lap. The worker sat across from us, and handed her a bunch of blocks. When she heard a "ringing" she put the block in the box! Very creative and she thought it was fun.
RESULTS: She has a bunch of fluid in both ears. They said she has definite hearing loss, and to relate... pretend she is sitting on the bottom of a swimming pool under water and we are trying to talk to her, thats how she is hearing right now. Poor sweet girl, she just can't really hear me. SO..we went back across the street to the doc...he has her on an antibiotic and prednisone (to help with the swelling and puffiness of her eyes).Today when we got home, she took a 2hr nap, and when she woke up her left eye was almost swollen shut, just from laying on that side. Ok, that is NOT normal. She is also taking singulair and zyrtec both to help with allergeries. He said this should all be better in 2 weeks, if not we need to come back! So I'm so thankful we got some answers, some good medicine, and my sweet little girl will be all better soon.
So pray for sweet Hannah to get well soon. I don't think she really feels bad, I just want her to be well. And today is her 3rd birthday! So after the doctor, to have a little fun, we went to chick-fil-a, she played on the playground, and then we went to Target to get her a b-day present. She got a little baby doll that comes with all the bath accessories. So now she gives her babies baths too....I think we are fully loaded when it comes to baby accessories. Little girls are so much fun!

Bless her sweet heart! We know how frustrating ear infections can be and I will for sure be praying for her to be completely healed soon and protected from any further infections or hearing loss. Did they mention tubes at all to help with fluid draining? I guess that would come later if the medicine didn't work. I'm praying!
WOW I remember those kind of ear infections. Stephen had lots of ear infections when he was under the age of two. The dr had just told us if he has one more he'll need tubes put in his ears. Strange he never had another one after that so he didn't need tubes. However, he had strep several times and never had a fever with it. Once he broke out in a awful rash..I noticed it the morning I was taking them in for pictures. I think he was 6 at the time. Standing at the door in go in I noticed a little red rash around his mouth and later, after the picture sitting, I got him home and took off his shirt... he was covered in a red rash. No fever. We went to the dr and he "Oh, he has strep all right" WOW. That happened about 5 times before 3rd grade. Guess he finally grew out of that.
I'll say a prayer for sweet Hannah.

My sweet Hannah girl! I'm so glad you decided to take her! Isn't "mom intuition" awesome! You just knew something wasnt right!?!?! Yea, no fever and no pain...how would you know?? and not just think it's allergies which the other doc told you. If she is like you, she will respond QUICKLY to antibiotics and hopefully it'll clear up all the fluid in the ears. I'll be praying for that sweetie pie. Love ya'll,
Mom/Me-maw
Poor baby girl. I can't believe she wasn't feeling worse. I'm glad you went to the doctor. She was bound to have allergies with you and your mom. Hope she gets better fast. Kel - check your e-mail. I sent you some info about Friday. - Mimi
